The Mayor’s Digital Talent Programme

The Mayor’s Digital Talent Programme: online support and opportunities during COVID-19.

We hope that you are well and doing your best to look after yourself and your loved ones during these unprecedented times. We know things have not been easy but we believe that crisis often gives rise to innovation and entrepreneurship. Within the Mayor’s Digital Talent Programme we have seen some striking stories on how digital technology has been used to address Covid-19 and help communities to support each other. And we are really proud that some of these stories come from young Londoners we help to support through our providers across London. Emanuel Oyemade, for example, a former participant of our FoundersDoor programme, created a crowdfunding campaign to produce 3D printed face shields for healthcare workers in Brighton. It’s true that these unprecedented times will have a lasting and profound impact on the way we live, learn and work, both in the short and long term. And we know that young people and those from BAME backgrounds are likely to be amongst those who need support. Therefore, more than ever, we need to respond quickly to support learners into employment and to work closely with employers to do so. And our providers are giving their best to continue our support to you. We also would like to invite you to be part of the #LondonTogether campaign, an initiative launched by the Mayor of London to celebrate positive stories anywhere in our city to inspire London’s communities during these extraordinary times. Share your story or help your family and friends to tell us how and what they are doing to make a difference and help one another.   Stay safe. We are in this together.

A NEW DIRECTION CREATES HUB TO SUPPORT YOUNG LONDONERS
Create Jobs, part of A New Direction, has produced a comprehensive information hub offering advice on employment, benefits and finances to support young creatives through COVID-19, and have switched to delivering advice and training sessions online. They have also partnered with the Creative Society to launch the Lockdown // Down to Work survey, to help organisations to understand how young people in London are working, coping and creating during the COVID-19 lockdown. The results of the survey will help to shape services to support young people into work following the impact of COVID-19.
A NEW PLATFORM TO TURN YOUR PASSION INTO DIGITAL SKILLS
This Is How is another great initiative from youth marketing agency Livity in collaboration with Nominet. They have created a website and podcast platform that will help young people to access the knowledge and training they need to embark on their digital careers. The platform aims to tackle important digital issues faced by young people today. You can listen to stories from young professionals who are working in the digital sector and learn from their experience.
A GUIDE TO REMOTE LEARNING FOR SCHOOLS AND PARENTS
London Connected Learning Centre (London CLC) has created a dedicated webpage with useful resources and links to help schools, parents and carers during the current climate. It sets out the key steps you can take to help children continue learning whilst at home.  They have also prepared a blog with valuable tips about remote learning, including a video featuring six best practice principles on remote learning by Kate Atkins.
